Is Teafy matcha certified organic?
Yes for most of our retail range. Every tea grown on our family farm in Shizuoka is grown to certified organic standards from soil to mill, with no synthetic pesticides, no synthetic fertilisers, and no chemical treatments at any stage. The relevant organic mark is printed on each pack so it's easy to see at a glance.
The exception in our retail range is our yuzu matcha. The yuzu comes from a different supplier in Japan that uses traditional growing methods but isn't currently certified organic. We're also planning to add a conventional matcha range over the coming months, grown without synthetic chemicals but without the certified organic mark, for buyers who want a more accessible price point. Anything that isn't certified will be labelled clearly on both the website and the pack.
Our wholesale customers (cafés, restaurants, and retailers buying in bulk) can choose between certified organic and conventional depending on what suits their business. The two channels run in parallel so wholesale partners get to pick what works for their margins and their customers.
Teafy is also currently transitioning to Australian Certified Organic status on our Melbourne facility, which means going forward, eligible products will carry both the Japanese growing standard and the Australian manufacturing standard.
If certified organic matters to you, look for the organic mark on the front of the can. If it isn't there, the product is conventional rather than certified.
